1948 — The Nakba
More than 700,000 Palestinians were forced to flee or expelled from their homes, and hundreds of communities were depopulated. Known as the Nakba—“the catastrophe”—its legacy continues across generations.
1967 — Occupation and Displacement
Following the Six-Day War, Israel occupied the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced, beginning a new chapter of military rule, settlement expansion, and restrictions that continue to shape Palestinian life.
1987 & 2000 — The Intifadas

2008–2026 — Loss and Resilience
