1948 — The Nakba
More than 700,000 Palestinians were forced to flee or expelled from their homes, and hundreds of communities were depopulated. Known as the Nakba—“the catastrophe”—its legacy continues across generations.
1967 — Occupation and Displacement
Following the Six-Day War, Israel occupied the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced, beginning a new chapter of military rule, settlement expansion, and restrictions that continue to shape Palestinian life.
1987 & 2000 — The Intifadas
Palestinians began two major uprisings against occupation. The First Intifada was driven largely by protests, strikes, and civil disobedience, while the Second unfolded amid intensified conflict—both leaving a lasting impact on Palestinian life and the pursuit of freedom.
2008–2026 — Loss and Resilience
Repeated wars and escalating violence caused widespread displacement and humanitarian suffering, particularly in Gaza. Amid profound loss, Palestinian communities continued to support one another, preserve their identity, and hold onto hope for freedom, dignity, and peace.
